AAAFF is proud to co-present the screening of X500 and participate in Cine Sin Fronteras during the 20th Annual Cine Las Americas International Film Festival (CLAIFF).
X500 (Canada/Colombia/Mexico, Drama)
Juan Andrés Arango’s acclaimed drama tells three stories, separated by thousands of miles but linked by the common theme of migration. In rural Colombia, Alex—recently deported from the U.S.—tries to resume his old life as a fisherman in a town increasingly ruled by gangs. In Mexico, villager David arrives in the capital and seeks respite from his construction job in the city’s punk rock scene. And in Canada, Maria starts running with a tough crowd after moving from the Philippines to Montreal. Arango’s observational style depicts youth subcultures in a compassionate, non-exploitative manner, while providing powerful individual portraits of teenagers seeking identity on shifting terrain.
